On Wednesday this week, the Australian music industry gathered at The Star in Pyrmont, Sydney for the 30th Anniversary ARIA Awards. Between the awards, were performances by some of the industry greats including ARIA Hall of Fame inductees John Farnham, Jimmy Barnes and Crowded House as well as Bernard Fanning, Flume, Missy Higgins, Troye Sivan, Violent Soho, The Veronicas, Jessica Mauboy, Illy, Vera Blue and Sivan.
The stand out award winner of the night was Flume, who walked away with awards for Telstra Album of the Year, Best Male Artist, Best Dance Release, Best Pop Release and Best Independent Release.
Iconic Australian group Crowded House were inducted into the hall of fame by Bret MacKenzie and Jemaine Clement of Flight of the Conchords. As a tribute to the band, Missy Higgins and Bernard Fanning performed Fall at Your Feet and Better Be Home Soon before Crowded House performed their own Distant Sun.
The other awards winners this year were: Sia (Best Female Artist), Violent Soho (Best Group & Best Rock Album), Montaigne (Breakthrough Artist), Drapht (Best Urban Album), Bernard Fanning (Best Adult Contemporary Album), Sarah Blasko (Best Adult Alternative Album), Sara Storer (Best Country Album), King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard (Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album), Russel Morris (Best Blues & Roots Album), The Wiggles (Best Children’s Album), Troye Sivan (Best Video & Apple Music Song of the Year), Hilltop Hoods (Best Australian Live Act) and One Direction (Best International Act).
