Robbie Williams today release his brand new studio album, The Heavy Entertainment Show on Columbia Records though Sony Music Entertainment Australia.
This is the first album Williams has released through Sony. The album is expected to follow in the footsteps of his previous 11 UK chart topping albums, a success rate not seen since Elvis Presley.
Robbie has said about his album,
“I was musing over the phrase ‘light entertainment’ – all the huge TV shows from when I was a kid, 30 million people watching them, this huge shared experience of these moments called light entertainment. Sometimes it can be levelled at people in a bad way, but for me that’s heavy entertainment. That’s what I’m hoping to do with this album – to have a shared experience with millions of people through the medium of light entertainment…but on steroids”
Today Williams also announced that he is heading to Australia later this month. He will be performing on X Factor but has not announced any more plans for his trip down under.
It has also been announced recently that Robbie Williams will be receiving the BRITs Icon Award this month. The award is given only to those who have made a lasting impact on British culture and set themselves apart from their peers through their writing, recording and performing. The prestigious award has previously been received by Sir Elton John and David Bowie.
